Catalca
General: One of the best places around Istanbul for basic training. Nothing exciting for advanced pilots.

Karaburun
General: 1km soaring ridge suitable for pilots any level. North wind only.
Take Off:  Very easy.  Grassy
Landing:  Top landing. Small beach for emergency landing.
Height:  30-50m AGL/ASL.
Location: 80 km from city center.
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Istanbul.
Other Activities: A lot to do in Istanbul.

Aydos
General: The second highest peak in Istanbul.
Take Off:  Easy.
Landing:  Easy.
Height:  230m AGL.
Wind: Only for South winds.
Location: 80km from city center.
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Istanbul.
Other Activities: A lot to do in Istanbul.

Ciftalan
General: An artficial hill discovered recently.
Take Off:  Difficult due to the turbulance of the steep slope. Suitable only for South winds.
Landing:  Easy.
Height:  50m AGL.
Location: 60km from city center.
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Istanbul.
Other Activities: A lot to do in Istanbul.

Silivri
General: Soaring ridge facing Marmara sea. An alternetive to Catalca for strong south wind.
Take Off:  Easy. Grassy.
Landing:  Top landing. Very small beach for emergency landings.
Height:  30m. AGL
Wind: Suitable only for South winds.
Location: 60 km from city center.
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Istanbul.

Sile
General: 1 km long ridge facing Black Sea on Asian side.
Take Off:  Easy. Grassy.
Landing:  Top landing. Beach for emergency landings.
Height:  50m. AGL
Wind: Suitable only for North winds.
Location: 70 km from city center.
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Istanbul.

BOLU

Abant
General: One of the most popular in Turkey due to the proximity to Istanbul and spectecular scenery over Abant lake. Several sites for for all levels. Good thermals and XC flying in the summer. Strong winds in the afternoon.
Take Off:  Very easy. Grassy.
Landing:  Very easy. A big flat grass land around the lake
Height:  30m-400m-700m AGL.
Wind: Take-off sites for almost any wind direction.
Location: 35 km from Bolu.
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Bolu and Abant lake.
Other Activities: Perfect for camping, fishing, horseback riding, hiking.

ESKISEHIR

Inonu
General: One of the oldest and biggest free flight schools in the world. It's owned and managed by THK (Turkish Aeronautical Ass.) 15km long ridge perfext for soaring and XC flying.
Take Off:  Very easy.
Landing:  Very easy.Grassy.Take-off sites for any wind direction except east.
Height:  250-300m AGL.
Location: 38 km from Eskişehir.
Transportation:  You may use THK shuttles.
Accommodation:  THK dorms and guest house.
Other Activities: Skydiving, hanggliding, sailplane and baloon flying.

BURSA

Kusaklikaya
General: Most popular ski resort in Turkey.
Take Off: Easy, grassy, snow in the winter. North wind only
Landing:  Easy. Grassy.
Height:

Transportation:  Cable car from the city. Chair lift from the ski resort.
Accommodation:  Plenty but expensive in the ski resort. Reasonable ones in Bursa.

Sogukpinar
General: Most popular ski resort in Turkey. In winter you may have a retrival problem as the road to the village is often covered in deep snow.
Take Off: Easy, grassy, snow in the winter. South wind only.
Landing:  Easy. Grassy.

Accommodation:  Plenty but expensive in the ski resort. Reasonable ones in Bursa.

ERZINCAN

Mt. Kesis-Vank
General: Excellent cross country over the Turkish highlands.
Take Off: Very easy.  Big, rounded grassy hill.  Take off to any direction. Landing: Very easy.  Plenty of empty fields around the city.
Height:  3458m ASL- 400m-800m AGL
Location: 6km
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.  Two wheel drive but dirt road to the site. Accommodation:  A few but enough in Erzincan
Other Activities: Rafting, horse back riding, mountaineering, ice climbing.

Munzur
General: Offical site for PWC 2002. Excellent cross country over the Turkish highlands. Advance flying site. You can easily fly +100km
Take Off: Very easy.  Big, rounded grassy hill.  Take off to any direction.
Landing:  Very easy.  Plenty of empty fields around the city.
Height:  320m ASL-1500m AGL
Location: 12km fro Erzincan city
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.  Two wheel drive but dirt road to the site. Accommodation:  A few but enough in Erzincan
Other Activities: Rafting, horse back riding, mountaineering, ice climbing.

KAYSERI

Alidag 
General: This is a magnificent site with excellent XC potential.  A solitary mountain in the middle of an endless flat land. The currentl record holder Bojan Marcic had a flight in Kayseri and a distance of 112km. was recorded by FAI officials in 1995.
Take Off: Very easy.  Big, rounded grassy hill.  Take off to any direction.
Landing:  Very easy.  Plenty of empty fields around the city.
Height:  600-910 AGL

Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.  Two wheel drive but dirt road to the site.
Accommodation:  Plenty in the city but you should see Capodocia.
Other Activities: Cappadocia is only 1.5 hours drive away and there are sufficient interesting places to occupy non fliers for 3 days. Rock formations and underground city of early Christians.

ANTALYA

Tunek Tepe
General: Well, a site for dare-devils.  Magnificent scenery but a crap and very dangerous take off.  Take offs from a ramp in front of a plush rotating restaurant.  Even if you don't fly, it is well worth the effort to drive up to see the scenery while sipping cofee in the rotating restaurant.
Take Off:  Advance.  A ramp with plenty of holes in it with no protection at the end.
Landing:  Very easy.  Massive beach down below.
Height (AGL):  600 AGL-ASL
Location: 20 minutes from city center.
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.  Autobahn class bitumen all the way up.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Antalya which is only 1/2 hrs drive away.  Or the luxury hotel on top of the mountain.
Other Activities:  Plenty in Antalya and in the area.  Feel comfortable to bring along your family members.

Tahtali
General: A famous mountaineering site behind Tekirova, famous holiday resort. You must take a 5 hours trekking on rough terrain. But its worth it.
Take Off: Not very easy
Landing:  Easy
Height:  2375m AGL/ASL
Location: 20 minutes from Tekirova
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle
Accommodation:  Plenty in Tekirova.
Other Activities: Plenty in Tekirova.

Alanya
General: One of the most famous holiday resorts in Turkey. You have to fly over the city so in case of emergency landing you may need good pilot skills.
Take Off: Easy
Landing:  Very Easy
Height:  350m AGL/ASL
Location: 10 minutes from Alanya
Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle. Asphalt road.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Alanya !!!
Other Activities:

Kas
General: A new, one year old site.  Access is easy and scenery is excellent.  It is a good alternative to Oludeniz and only 1.5 hours drive away from it.   To me, it is a better site and offer better XC potential.
Take Off:  Easy.
Landing:  Easy if you land at the new harbour.  If you try the old harbour, it is very tricky and risky.  The landing approach is over the yachts but sometime have to dodge the masts if they are too long.  So for advance pilots only.  But it is well worth.
Height (ASL):  600 meters.
Location:
Transportation:  Shuttle bus costs you about $3 US dollars.
Accommodation:  Plenty in the town.  It is cheap too.
Other Activities:  Crystal clear water for swimming, diving.  2000yrs old ancient town so plenty of attraction therefore suitable to non fliers.

MUGLA

Oludeniz
Oludeniz-Fethiye
General: Best and safest site in Europe if not in the world!! Most famous flying site in Turkey for its excellent flying conditions and the wonderful scene you watch from high above. Excellent for pilots at all levels. Spectecular for safety training and acro flying. Non flyers can take a Taxi-Tandem from the beach. You must visit Oludeniz at least once in your life.
Take Off:  Easy-Hard.
Landing:  Easy. On the beach.
Height (ASL):  1700-1970 meters.  Various take-off's for almost any direction.
Location: 60km from Dalaman airport.
Transportation:  Shuttle bus costs you about $3 US dollars plus site fee of similar amount.
Accommodation:  Plenty in the town.
Other Activities:  Crystal clear water for swimming, diving.  A good place for relaxing.  Suitable to non fliers. Rafting, carting, horseback riding, trekking, canyonning etc...

Gokova
General: Used to be a popular site but loosing popularity.  The biggest problem with the site is the strong valley breeze in the afternoon.  Otherwise another excellent site with a potential of looong ridge soaring up to 30 km.  Access is very easy.
Take Off:  Not bad.
Landing:  Plenty of landing options but be careful about strong valley breeze.  Check the valley breeze before take off.
Height (ASL):  650 meters.
Location: 20 minutes from Dalaman airport
Transportation:  Bring your own.  But access is very easy.
Accommodation:  Plenty in the village of Akyaka.
Other Activities:  Swimming, bush walking.  A good place for relaxing.  Marmaris is not too far away for night life. 
  
Oren
General: A good ridge soaring site. Rapidly improving its fame for its easy thermalling conditions. Only for South winds.
Take Off:  Easy.
Landing:  Easy.
Height:  600 m. ASL-AGL
Location: 30 minutes from Dalaman airport.
Transportation:  Bring your own. Access is a bit challenging but two wheel drive access.
Accommodation:  Plenty in the village.
Other Activities:  Swimming.  A good place for relaxing. 

IZMIR

Bozdag
General: one of the best XC sites.  Launch is just over a highway and a massive valley surrounded by big mountains.  Not much to say just perfect.
Take Off:  Very easy
Landing:  Easy.  Try not to fly into the valley straight in front of the launch.  Limited landing option not good for novices.
Height:  600 meters.
Location:
Transportation:  Bring your own or use public transportation.
Accommodation:  Well some in the area. Plenty in Izmir.
Other Activities:  Not much.  You may visit the town of Golcuk for an evening beer by the lake. Plenty in Izmir.

DENIZLI

Honaz
General: Official site of 1st World air Games (WAG) 1997. One of the most spectecular XC sites in Turkey. Relatively easy for pilots at any level. Thermals get stronger in the aftrenoon. High mountains and flatlands. Any type of flying available. Great potential for distance records. The local club is very active and very helpful.

Height:  1500m AGL
Location: One hour from Denizli
Transportation:   Bring your own vehicle. Dirt road in good condition.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Denizli.
Other Activities:  See Pamukkale for famous magnificient " Cotton Castle" geological formations and vast archelogical site.

Cokelez
General: Alternative site to Honaz during the WAG 1997. Smoother conditions when Honaz is too strong. The local club is very active and very helpful.

General: If you ever plan to fly at Honaz do not forget to visit the famous touristic site Pamukkale. The local club is very active and very helpful.

MERSIN

Arslankoy 
General: Another new site.  Never been there before but according to the information I am getting, it is an excellent XC site.  Take off at 1960 mt and ground level is at 1350 mt.
Take Off:  Apparently novice site.
Landing:  Apparently plenty of flat land around the mountain.
Height (AGL):  600 meters

Transportation:  Bring your own vehicle.
Accommodation:  Plenty in Mersin.  Mersin is only 55 km away from the site
